Uozu lacquerware began at the end of the Muromachi period when woodworkers from Hida moved there, and by the Taisho period the production area had prospered to the point where 69 units were manufactured. This area is the largest producer of lacquer in the Hokuriku region, and is blessed with an abundance of beech and horse chestnut, and has specialized in making durable and practical everyday items. Many achievements were lost in the Great Uozu Fire of 1955, and currently only one house continues to maintain the tradition. The smooth curved shape of the bowl feels gentle in your hand, and the more you use it, the more it becomes more lustrous.
