As one of the few kilns designated as a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency, Fukagawa Seiji has produced high-class porcelain that is used in the Imperial Household and State Guest Houses. Sometsuke, a traditional Arita ware technique, is a technique in which unglazed fabric is painted with gosu (cobalt oxide), coated with a transparent glaze, and fired at high temperatures. The grape pattern drawn on this small plate has been a symbol of fertility and prosperity since ancient times, and has been loved as an auspicious pattern.
