Dolton Kiln, which was founded in Lambeth, London in 1815, is known as a legendary kiln that produced many highly artistic "Dolton Wares" under the hands of the second generation Henry Dolton. This vase is a rare piece of the Slater patent technique, estimated to have been made in the 1920s or 1930s. The unique technique devised by John Slater (1844-1914) involves pressing real lace onto clay to transfer the pattern, and then applying color or gold on top, giving the lace's delicate texture the texture.
