A solid oak dining chair reminiscent of early 20th century England. Inheriting the design of the Carolean Style, it has a dignified appearance with a spiral leg called Barley Sugar Twist, side pillars, and slat back. The top of the backrest is decorated with elaborate carvings that combine grapes and botanical patterns, and has maintained its vivid appearance over time.

Details

The Carolian style is a furniture style that flourished during the reign of King Charles II of England in the late 17th century, and is characterized by the fusion of continental European baroque decoration and traditional English woodworking techniques. The turning process of Burley Sugar Twist required skilled craftsmanship, and it had a formality worthy of decorating the mansions of the upper class at the time. The arch and grape motifs carved into the crest rail (upper backrest) are widely loved as classic iconography symbolizing fertility and vitality. Oak is a wood species that deepens over time, and the dark brown surface of this chair quietly tells of the accumulation of time.
