A beautiful plate from the Country Life series made in 1982 by Miyot in the UK. Founded in 1898, Millott is a Staffordshire-based ceramics manufacturer known for its works depicting the English countryside.

The rural scene depicted in deep burgundy (reddish brown) on a cream background is impressive. In the center are hunters on horseback and carriages transporting their prey, and in the background are English cottages and lush trees, vividly representing a hunting scene in rural England around the 18th century. The landscapes drawn using the detailed pointillist technique have a depth similar to that of copperplate engravings.

The frilled edges are tied with a ribbon and decorated with motifs reminiscent of acorns and oak leaves, symbolizing the bounty of the forest and hunting culture. The detailed stippling technique applied to the entire edge creates a delicate lace-like texture, giving the entire plate a sense of unity and class.

Recommended usage/applications

The size is perfect for everyday use as a dinner plate, lunch plate, or cake plate. You can serve a variety of dishes such as pasta, stews, and salads. You can create a traditional tea time by adding scones and sandwiches for English afternoon tea.
