This is a silver-plated nut bowl by Walker & Hall, one of Britain's leading silversmiths of the early 20th century. Walker & Hall, based in Sheffield, is known as a long-established silverware manufacturer founded in 1845, and from the Victorian to Edwardian eras, it was a brand that was said to be of quality equivalent to that of the Royal Warrant. This work is thought to have been produced from the Edwardian period to the early Georgian period (early 20th century).

The main body of the bowl is richly engraved with a rocaille (reef/shell) pattern derived from the Baroque/Rococo style, and the rim is lined with neat gadrun decorations. The squirrel sitting at the top of the scroll on the handle accurately depicts the pose of holding a nut in its front paws, and has a high degree of perfection as an independent sculpture. The pedestal is designed with a circular foot patterned in the Gadorun pattern, and the overall structure is both solid and light. The soft shine unique to silver plate remains beautiful even after many years.
