A black glaze flower vase made by Yamaguchi Kozaemon Kiln, a famous kiln in Akatsu, Seto City, Aichi Prefecture. Akatsu ware, one of Japan's six oldest kilns, has a history of more than 1,000 years since its opening in the Heian period, and was designated as a national traditional craft in 1977. Kozaemon Yamaguchi was born in 1920, and in 1927 he formed the ceramics research group Seitosha and became a pioneer of Akatsu ware. The contrast between deep black and brown is strong, and the sides are decorated with unique shapes. This is a precious item that has been delivered over time, unused and still in its wooden box.

Akatsu ware is characterized by seven glazes and twelve decorative techniques. The black glaze used in this work is a type of iron glaze, and is characterized by its deep dark brown color. The three-dimensional decorations on the sides are thought to be the result of a pasting technique applied after the potter's wheel was formed. Akatsu ware flourished as the official kiln of the Owari Tokugawa family, and its current traditional techniques and techniques were established in the early Edo period, and it developed into tea pottery.
